Samples for HPV and thin-layer cytology testing are sorted by the instrument into appropriate trays for processing in various automated laboratory machines. The samples and trays are each provided with barcodes that are read by the system. From the customer's laboratory information system, the information on what to do with the respective sample is automatically determined. Different laboratory automation systems are available, each of which is required for different diagnostic issues. The system picks up a sample and can then decide independently in which tray for which automated machine the sample is to be sorted. The system can pick up trays as well as different sample vessels via a tool changer. By using an igus gantry robot, personnel costs were optimized and incorrect assignments were eliminated. The estimated RIO for this is approximately 13-15 months.
